Brother Cartridges Australia
Brother printers are a staple of Australian homes and offices. They're known for low running costs, solid build quality, and straightforward setup. CartridgeHQ stocks the full range of Brother ink cartridges, toner cartridges, and drum units in both genuine OEM and quality compatible options.
Brother Ink Cartridges
Brother's inkjet printers use the LC (Liquid Cartridge) series. Each generation of Brother inkjet uses a specific LC number, so matching the right series to your printer is essential.
LC-432 / LC-432XL Series
The LC-432 is Brother's current standard inkjet cartridge, used in models like the MFC-J5740DW and DCP-J1140DW. It comes in four individual colours: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. The LC-432XL high-yield variant prints roughly 50% more pages than the standard, making it the better pick for regular printing.
LC-436 / LC-436XL Series
Used in Brother's newer A3-capable inkjet models, the LC-436 series handles higher print volumes. These cartridges suit small offices that need to print larger format documents alongside standard A4. The XL versions offer strong value per page.
LC-462 / LC-462XL Series
The LC-462 is found in Brother's latest generation of compact inkjet all-in-ones. Same four-colour individual format. The XL variants are the smarter choice if you print more than a handful of pages each week.
Brother Toner Cartridges
Brother's laser printers are hugely popular in Australian offices. They're fast, reliable, and the toner lasts. Here are the most common toner series:
- TN-253 / TN-257: Used in colour laser models like the MFC-L3750CDW and HL-L3230CDW. The TN-253 is the standard yield and the TN-257 is the high-yield variant. Available in black, cyan, magenta, and yellow.
- TN-2450: A mono black toner used in the HL-L2350DW, HL-L2375DW, MFC-L2710DW, and MFC-L2750DW. One of the best-selling toner cartridges in Australia. Prints up to 3,000 pages.
- TN-2530 / TN-2530XL: The newer replacement for the TN-2450, used in Brother's latest mono laser models. Standard yield prints around 1,200 pages; the XL prints up to 3,000.
Drum Units: What They Are and When to Replace Them
Brother laser printers use a separate drum unit alongside the toner cartridge. The drum is the component that transfers the toner powder onto the page. It lasts much longer than a toner cartridge, typically around 12,000 pages, but it does eventually wear out.
The most common Brother drum unit is the DR-2424, used with the TN-2450 and TN-2530 toner cartridges. Your printer will display a "Replace Drum" message when the drum reaches the end of its life. You don't need to replace the drum every time you change the toner. Most users go through three or four toner cartridges before the drum needs replacing.
This separate drum design is one reason Brother lasers have low running costs. The toner cartridge itself is cheaper because it doesn't contain the drum mechanism. Just make sure you order the right drum for your printer when the time comes.

OEM vs Compatible Brother Cartridges
We stock both genuine Brother cartridges and compatible alternatives. Genuine Brother toner and ink carry the Brother branding and are tested for their specific printers. Compatible Brother cartridges are manufactured by third parties at a lower price.
For everyday document printing, compatible Brother toner delivers clean, sharp text that's hard to tell apart from the original. Compatible ink cartridges also perform well for standard home and office use. For high-volume colour printing where consistency across thousands of pages matters, genuine Brother toner gives you the manufacturer's quality assurance.
